Titanium is my current ones. It's definitely a lighter metal to handle on the face. -

Wed, July 7, 2004 - 10:01 PM*Boy with glasses*
I've done metal before, but the little nose pads tend to get yeucky.
I've gone the vintage robust route for the last 8 years or so. -

Re: plastic or metal?
Thu, July 8, 2004 - 6:18 PMI dunno about anybody else, but part of the problem for some of us with the selection is giganticfrigginmelonitis- esp. with vintage. It's like everybody was a pinhead in the 50's...

Re: plastic or metal?
Thu, July 8, 2004 - 7:17 PMi bought plastic ones and spent a fortune thinking that I would wear them more, well I didnt. Now I have a flaming cornea infection, but the end of the story is that I have to wear my glasses 24/7 for a while now and Im glad I spent that $$ on fancy frames. Im a label whore and I bought me some Gucci ones, most expensive thing own. But damn it, i look good.

Re: plastic or metal?
Fri, July 9, 2004 - 6:25 PMplastic definitely allows for more comfort... you don't have to contend with nosepads or allergic reaction to the nickel in the frames.
plastic, on the whole, is funkier and gives you a more stylized look. the right frame can also be sophisticated and fresh.
the big new rage are the thicker metal frames. these are frames that are a metal based, but give the appearance of plastic because of their more prominent design.
try on as many of those frames as you can and be aware of your persciption, as a thicker perscription might look better in plastic frames, rather than any metal ones you might find!

Re: plastic or metal?
Fri, July 9, 2004 - 9:54 PMI like my metal ones a lot, they have a bit of a funky shape compared to normal glasses, yet they look much more sophisticated than any plastic frames i've seen. plus they're a LOT more durable than my old plastic ones.

Re: plastic or metal?
Sat, July 10, 2004 - 12:38 PMI've always had metal. Right now they are silver on top and frameless on the bottom.

Re: plastic or metal?
Sun, July 11, 2004 - 3:59 PMMy new ones are made of titanium.
After I got them I squinted at them in my hand and realized, My gosh! They're old-lady cat eye frames!
Eh. I got 'em 'cuz their pinkish looks made my face less menacing to look at.
What I really like about them is the cool way my polarizer clip-ons attach -- so cool, so magnetically. -

Re: plastic or metal?
Fri, July 30, 2004 - 9:08 PMWhen I first got glasses I always had plastic frames with glass lenses. Once I started buying my own, I've gone to metal frames with plastic lenses. The last 2 pairs(regular and prescription sunglasses) I got (it was Buy 1 Get 1 Free) are really small and only have frames on the top. My Mom teased me about how each time the glasses get smaller and smaller.

Re: plastic or metal?
Sun, August 1, 2004 - 11:28 AMAs many other people, I love my titanium frames because they are really light-weight. In general I prefer metal frames (I think they can be funky too) - and in fact I haven't had plastic frames for at least 15 years. At the moment though, my frameless glasses are my favourites. -

Re: plastic or metal?
Tue, August 17, 2004 - 10:52 PMI have such a high perscription (read: really bad eyesight)that I have been wearing metal since I was in high school (27 years). The plastic ones got too heavy and I never liked how they would slip down my nose, especially if I was sweaty.
But now with the super thin processing of the higher prescriptions I was thinking about trying a new plastic frame. I'm due for a checkup and I don't think my perscription has changed (first time it hasn't gotten worse!), and my husband has a thing for women with dark plastic frames, so maybe I will give it a try so I will have a usable pair of each.
Maybe I can find a pair that is plastic around the lense but has wire earpieces.

Re: plastic or metal?
Thu, September 23, 2004 - 11:19 AMPlastic is great if you want your glasses to be noticed. I'm pretty nearsighted with astigmatism, so I tended to wear plastic to hide the thickness of my frames. But as lens technologies have gotten better and frame sizes have gotten smaller I now have a completely cool and light pair of semi-rimless frames that are verrrrrrrrry comfortable.

Re: plastic or metal?
Thu, September 30, 2004 - 2:10 AMplastic are so much tougher than metal...and if you are like me, you always end up setting a book on them, or sitting on them, or something...plus, i think the styles are cooler -
