Cheap but cool lenses in San Jose or SF area...

I've fully switched over to my glasses (due to too much wear of my contacts...I can only handle contacts for about 3 hours now...so I wear them only on special occassions).

I would like to have a few pairs of glasses (I have one pair now) for fashion reasons...is that wrong of me? ;0)

Any one know of a place to get cool but cheap frames in the SJ or SF area?? My lenses are what cost the most...

Volunteers Needed For Photo Project! I need your help!

Hey my name is Kara. I'm a photography student in Boston. I'm doing a photo project for display in a local coffee shop. I'm looking for unique and open minded volunteers for the project.What makes this project unique is that all of the pictures for the project will be taken by the volunteers themselves, which enables me to have people from all over the globe involved. I'm making a collage of peoples faces hands and feet and arranging all of the pictures randomly. The whole concept of the project is to see if people who view the project can match the feet and the hands to the faces. And since the people for the project will be taking the pictures themselves, no two pictures will be alike. If you're interested in volunteering I would just need a picture of your face, Two pictures of your hands one picture of the top of your hands, the other picture the palms. And two pictures of your feet, one of the tops of your feet, the other one the soles. All you'd have to do is email me the pictures and I'll add them to the project. If you'd like I can email you a picture of the finished project. I am hoping that the project turns out good, as I think it's a cool concept that's never been attempted before. where can i shop

hi all.... ok even tho i wear glasses and love them, glasses shopping is one of the most traumatic times for me. i hate looking in the mirror and doing so in stupid glasses in that harsh lighting is not good. i usually go to eye masters or lenscrafters and they dont have crap with any style... i like cat eyes but i've been reduced to buying fake wire ones. any suggestions????????/ i live in houston so there has to be somewhere. but i dont want to spend $300 either....

When I started shooting for Girls With Glasses.com I only had
one pair of frames for my models to wear. Soon after I became obsessed
with collecting as many frames as I could.. not only for my models to
choose from, but also to sell at conventions and whatnot.

Now we're coming up on 10 years of Girls With Glasses being in
existence and I thought you guys would be interested in buying frames
and other items we might have up for grabs. The money I make here will
be going into hosting fees, bandwidth, film and other needs for the
site (right now I need all the help I can get).

My first serious girlfriend wore glasses. I've been hooked ever since. There's just something about a woman wearing glasses that gets me going. In one respect they frame the eyes and draw my attention in by saying look here, there's something more. Once I gaze into a pair of bespectaled female eyes, I wonder what's inside and am hypnotized, mesmerized by the prospect of intelligence and allure. Cat glasses, round frames, anything goes.

Imagine - Happy Sun Indians crying!

Dr. Mitzva was sitting in his yard enjoying the early morning sun. Birds were singing, children were laughing on their way to school, and inside the house Mrs. Goldengreen was cheerfully dusting.
"What a lovely, happy day," he murmured. "Everything is sunny and smiley, just the way a day should be. I hope no one calls me today. I'd like to catch up on my reading."

Just then, the phone rang very loudly. Dr. Mitzva picked up the receiver and listened. He sighed. "Very well," he said. "I suppose I shall have to come." He hung up.

"Mrs. Goldengreen," he called, "could you kindly prepare my travelling bag for me? And I think I shall need a saddle. Do I happen to have an old saddle somewhere?"

"A saddle? Can't you use your bicycle? Besides, I thought you were going to spend the day in the garden, reading."

"I thought so too," sighed Dr. Mitzva again, "but my friends the Happy Sun Indians need me. It seems they aren't so happy or sunny anymore. In fact, the entire tribe is walking around under a cloud. They haven't smiled or laughed since it snowed last winter! Some of them are even crying. Imagine - Happy Sun Indians crying! I shall have to take a look and see what I can do. Did you find a saddle?"

Mrs. Goldengreen didn't find a saddle but she did find a book she handed to Dr. Mitzva. "Here," she said, "take this with you. It might help."

Just then a rider and two horses were seen coming down Cobblestone Lane. Windows opened up, children cheered, drivers honked and waved. Indians on horses were not an everyday sight in Cedarville.

"Is there a circus in town?" asked one excited little boy.

"Naw!" said his brother. "It's probably another one of Dr. Mitzva's friends. But he's the saddest looking Indian I ever saw. He looks like he's going to cry!"

And indeed he did. He stopped at Dr. Mitzva's house and waited for the doctor to put on his gray bowler hat and straighten his red dotted bow tie. He picked up Dr. Mitzva's bags, and then picked up Dr. Mitzva himself and sat him on top of the second horse.

"It's a good thing you brought a saddle," said Dr. Mitzva. "Mine seems to have disappeared." The Indian nodded and wiped a tear from his nose. All along the road, people saw the tall, feather-dressed Indian and the short bowler-hatted doctor. They smiled. Dr. Mitzva smiled back. The Indian sniffed.

At the reservation, two hundred gloomy Indians stood in a circle and waited for Dr. Mitzva. Chief Happy Face began to cry.

"Our medicine man is strong," he said, "but not strong enough to cure our sad-sickness. Perhaps your medicine can help."

"Whatever is the matter?" asked Dr. Mitzva. "You have always been the world's happiest Indians. You make everyone smile. What happened?"

"Nothing," sobbed the Chief. "It's just that there are so many things we want but don't have. So many things to do which we can't possibly do. So many places to go that we'll never get to. It's just so very, very sad. So much to want and so little to actually get and have and do!"

"I only have two outfits of clothing," said Little Eyes. "One for everyday and one for ceremonies. And I only have one horse. My friends in other tribes have five or six horses each! My clothes are always being washed and my horse is always tired. I need more clothes to wear and more horses to ride!"

"I don't need clothes or horses," said Biggest Brother. "I want to sing in the opera but everyone laughs at me. They say I have no voice and I can't sing on tune. All I can do is play the drums and chant Indian music. It's so boring."

"And I want to be an important leader, like Chief Happy Face. But I have no tribe to lead," complained Susan WindStorm.

More and more Indians stood in line, each waiting to tell Dr. Mitzva what they wanted and what they didn't have. When they were all finished, Mrs. White-Moon-Face asked, "How can we be happy if no one has what he or she wants?" Dr. Mitzva pulled on his moustache and pushed back his hat.

"My dear friends," he finally said, "the solution is simple. You must all want exactly what you have! If you aren't happy with what you have, all your moons will be spent crying and complaining and the sad-sickness will spread. Little Eyes should clean his clothing and take care of his loyal horse. Biggest Brother should practice his drums and chants. He is the best drum player and chanter in the tribe. Indian music isn't boring at all, and isn't he lucky that Indian songs don't have to be sung on tune? And Susan WindStorm is already an important Indian chief. She teaches all the tribe's children in school, and leads them after school and arranges and decides everything for the tribe's holiday celebrations. Why, without Susan, the Happy Sun Indians would never have a happy party or feast or celebration to go to!"

"What about me?" asked Chief Happy Face. "I'm sad too."

"Why are you sad?" asked Dr. Mitzva.

"Because everyone in my tribe is so gloomy and dismal and gray!"

"Then let's make the gloomy gray all bright and shiny," said Dr. Mitzva. "Let Little Eyes and everyone else prepare their best holiday clothing and brush the horses until they glow. Let Biggest Brother call out the drummers and the dancers and the band. Let Susan WindStorm organize a feast. And let's all get ready to give thanks for who we are and what we have. If each of us wants exactly what he has, no one will want anything else and everyone will be happy! And you will continue to be the smiley chief of the world's happiest tribe!"

The next day, two hundred Sun Happy Indians gathered in front of their circle of wigwams. Drums beat, chants were sung, Indian's danced and ate and told stories and passed the Friendship Pipe from one to the other. Finally, Dr. Mitzva held up his hand for silence. He took out Mrs. Goldengreen's book and began to read in a loud voice. The title of the book was: How to be Happy With Whatever You Have - 613 Funny Jokes for Unhappy Indians and Other People.

When Dr. Mitzva reached the last joke, Chief Happy Face was smiling brightly. "Ah," he said, "I was right. Your medicine is truly strong and good."

"It's not my medicine," Dr. Mitzva insisted. "Being happy with what we have is a mitzva, and all mitzvos are good, healthy medicine!"

5 year old glasses

roller coastars

So I went to Six Flags on Saturday and spent all day worrying about my glasses. I didn't want to wear them on the roller coastars because I was afraid they'd fly off my face, but I didn't want to put them in my pocket for fear they'd get squashed. I'm wondering what people do on these types of occasions--also sporty folks, do you wear your glasses while you, say, water ski? Do you switch to contacts? Use those horrible croakies from the 80s? Girls with glasses are awesome because they have glasses so they can read books and magazines, which means they're all smart and stuff, but if you go and talk to them and they say something too smart, they won't be able to see the look of confusion on your face 'cause their eye sight is all bad. how long do your glasses last?

I was expecting my el cheapo Costco pair to be completely trashed by now (2.5 yrs since I got them), but they've surprised me by lasting longer-as-originally-intact than my old uberexpensive pair, which got twisted and smashed and shattered and put back together within a year of getting them. And they're made of very similar materials, too. Titanium, natch.

The excuse of living rough can't be used -- I've lived rougher in the past 2.5 yrs than I did during the yrs I had my old frames.

What about you? How long do your glasses last?

I was 13 and around this time i had stopped wearing glasses and begun wearing contacts.

Well I was so used to pushing my frames up when i felt a tingle on the bridge of my nose.

It happened while in class and up my finger went to push up my glasses, when i realized i didn't wear them anymore, and SQUISH!

My finger poked my eye ball. ack. Ah, childhood.

O.K. How many guys (and girls) are feeling Tina Fey right now? I just watched Mean Girls today just to get a Fey fix. I wasn't going to watch it but then i realized that she does the commentary along with whoever the hell the director is. I like how geeky she is but also very New York too (although i thinks she's from chicago). Lately they've been using her in roles other than in Weekend Update on SNL. She totally rocked it as one of the Bush Twins in the opening monologue last week and is equally cute without her glasses.

Getting some new glasses

Had my eye exam Saturday and picked out a new pair of glasses--- didn't take as long as it sometimes does--- though most of the pairs I picked out were similar to what I already have. My new ones are gonna be a little bit different, but they are still half frames that aren't much bigger than my eyes. Hopefully they look good one I get them. :)

I make passes at girls who wear glasses! Actually, I don't really make passes since that can be downright rude and tends to make a guy look like an idiot...depending on how it's done, I suppose.

I truly do admire females who accentuate their faces with glasses. I can't tell you why, I just do. I think Janeane Garafalo is simply adorable when she wears hers, and what was that one hit wonder girl's name? She sang "Stay"... Lisa Loeb! Tina Fey is nice, too.

Hi all, this is an exciting tribe and I'm happy to have found it. Reading the messages left from the different admirers of various GWG's makes me giggle and blush and feel proud of my "too poor to wear contacts and see" vision. I went and got new glasses on Monday. They haven't come in yet so I can't horrify you all with pictures just as of yet, but I had to post my tribe confession. Apparently my face is so small that I had to get kids frames, yet again. Which royally blows because aside from the fact my new glasses are made by Disney I had very limited choices in what would work on my face, and what I did want to get was ruled out because it would interfere with my prescription (not enough lens room).

Totally depressing. I'm stuck in a glasses rut. I will never be able to wear a nice pair!

I didn't want to join until i had a photo of myself with my glasses. I got the frames at Lenscrafters, but had the lenses put in at Costco for 30$. They're mens Versace, I hate womens frames on my face, they're never wide enough.
